Day 3 (07-10-13) Early start today. Picked up from the hostel by Patricio and taken to the main Quito bus station. After getting my ticket and taking my seat on the bus we set off at 10am for the start of a mammoth 5 hour bus journey down to Puyo (at a cost of $5 – amazing). The scenery the whole way was breathtaking but unfortunately the journey was extremely bumpy …

Day 2 (06-10-13) I woke up nice and early after a good sleep. When I say nice and early, it was at 1.30am, then 4am then I finally got up at 7.30am. I popped down for some breakfast which simply consisted of bread and jam, a huge slice of pineapple?? and some coffee. After showering and getting ready I went down to meet Alex, another very friendly chap, and we started …

Remember the part in Jurassic Park when they descend in the helicopter? Well imagine that feeling in an Airbus! Bumpy to say the least. But once landed I was met by Franklin, my jolly, short, rotund escort into Quito itself. The first thing that struck me was the mountains and the sheer scale of them. Everywhere you look you see a fantastic mountain range, with volcanos dotted around. A truly spectacular …

I felt I could email them anytime and felt they wanted to help me with any issues and questions I had about the programme. The preparation process was really simple and reading the Kaya Welcome Pack told me everything I needed to know.  What has …

Day one began with some blurry sleepy memory of hearing something outside about 2am, I was too tired to wake up properly to find out what it was.  In the am, I discovered that there had been a monkey on the roof who was banging and clattering the tiles and trying to rip them off and lions had been roaring for ages out side. Was thanking Carwyn for providing a …

We flew from Manchester to Doha in 8 hours and then Doha to Johannesburg, in 7, then final flight to Port Elisabeth in just over an hour. Being someone who had never flown out of Europe, found …
