Today is my last working day here at Yanacocha and i've got to say, i'm really going to miss this place and the people who make it a success. They are doing such good work with the animals here and it's a very good set up and well run. Everyone has been really nice to me and accommodating with regards to my lack of Espanol! The food has been good, …

Cookies!!!! After doing our morning rounds I got to make cookies for the monkeys. They smelt soooo good I wanted to eat them myself. Most of the monkeys like the cookies but the Capuchinos just extract the banana and throw the rest away....what a waste. Today has been thunderstorm after thunderstorm and I realised quite quickly that my wellies fill up with water very fast! You could be out in …

Glorious sunshine today – not what I expected and now i'm a tad sunburnt! Today I was assigned to 'extra work' which is the big jobs around the project that can only get doen when there's lots of volunteers, and as 2 more Germans arrived yesterday there are now plenty of us. Todays extra work consisted of clearing the waters around the Chorongo's (woolly monkeys) 3 islands of mud and …

Back to work.....booooo! Get to play with animals......yeeeeeeyyyy! Usual rounds this morning. Still trying to get on Rosie's (spider monkey) good side! Actually, that goes for all 3. They really don't seem to like me. The day to day stuff is getting a little repetitive but you still get the unexpected due to the characters of the animals here. I did get to take baby food round to the monkeys …

I'm off to the jungle today!! Yippeee. So excited to get out there in the proper wild. Our first stop was a monkey rescue place. The idea is the same as here at Yanacocha but unfortuntely, the facilities were a little lacking and certainy not up to the standard set here. But saying that, my two companions Charlotte and Daniel did manage to get a squirrel monkey on their shoulders. …

Today was a bit of a washout. I was going to go exploring the proper jungle but it rained too much so had to abandon that idea until tomorrow. Instead I went into Puyo to drop off some washing and buy some food! Once back at the project I just lazed in the hammock and read my book for a few hours. Then slept for a few hours. Then read …

Friday! Tonight we are celebrating Elliott's birthday by having a few rum and cokes here and then heading into Puyo for some clubbing (can't remember the last time I went clubbing but we'll see how it goes). But first, work. We did the usual morning rounds before hitting the things to do list. Daniel and I got cleaning the rabbits and then cleaning the toilets! FUN! But I did get …

Slept brilliantly last night thanks to ear plugs! My appetite was back too so had some granola for breakfast and a coffee before hitting the cutting room to sort out food for the animals. Today I was doing half the big round, which I haven't done yet. Once food was ready to go we set off on our journey around the project to feed the expectant residence their morning supply …

Still feeling unwell so Elliott kindly allowed me the morning off to get some rest which I was able to do for the first time since being here. This helped immensely and I feel much better now. I helped some of the other volunteers collect fallen fruit to give to the monkeys before taking my laptop poolside and skyping Mum and Dad and then my beautiful girlfriend who have all …

Day 4 (08-10-13) Work commences! After a simple breakfast of grenola cereal and coffee (disappointed to see it was Nescafe instant!) We head to the cutting room. This is where all the food is prepared for the animals morning quota. Lots of good nutritious fruit and veg. I was assigned to the small round. This included a variety of bird, parrots, pavas (ecuadorian turkeys) Tortoises and squirrel monkeys. We headed to …
