  • Tears that were not mine!

Travel Journal from Thailand Chiang Mai, Thailand | Thu Jun 07, 2012

I'm hoping yesterday was the last day for my random emotions as today I feel a bit more like my old self? I have been on 3 bike rides today and with the help of some Eva Cassidy in my iPod I was starting to feel a lot more familiar with myself again. Ive spent the day doing lots of reading and suddenly realised how nice it is to be …

  • The journey begins...

Travel Journal from United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates | Fri Jun 01, 2012

So I have arrived at Abu Dhabi! My mum left me as I went through to 'the other side'! For those of you who are wondering... Yes... She did get emotional! (sorry mum!) I however went through the security thingy with uplifting comments from certain security guards. Funny how when you don't even try and look remotely attractive they seem to take an interest... I guess this embracing a more …

Travel Journal from Thailand Chiang Mai, Thailand | Tue Jun 05, 2012

Sorry it's been a couple of days since my last journal, i'm still adjusting to the culture shock. In all honesty I've cried about 10 times already For no reason whatsoever! Apparently this is "normal"!? Certainly never been called that before! Anyway... I'm settling in ok, the other volunteers are lovely but have all been here much longer than me so can speak a lot of Thai. This is one thing …

  • At the shelter.

Travel Journal from Thailand Chiang Mai, Thailand | Sun Jun 03, 2012

I stepped off the plane into the most sweltering heat I've ever experienced. The plane was delayed from Abu dhabi by 4 hours! I was relieved to finally be arriving in thailand! So... Here I am a plane journey, pink taxi, a tuk tuk, a sky train and a coach journey later, I've finally arrived at the sheltering chiang mai! I have just completed my first full day here on …

To all those travelling to the Philippines let me just tell you that as soon as possible change one of your P500 or P1000 notes and get some 20, 50 and 100 Peso notes. Try and do this before you get a taxi for example because many taxi drivers will say they do not have change and you will end up paying far too much for your taxi ride. Also, when travelling by taxi always use a metre taxi and make sure that they switch it on so you don't get ripped off!
