Living & Volunteering in Siem Reap

I gave up my job at the end of March 2015 and in a few weeks time I'm Cambodia bound, volunteering for 12 weeks for a community project in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Either I've taken leave of my senses or I'm following a path to...er....enlightenment? Or somewhere between the two? This journal is about my trip

 Headache of packing!

Well this is the morning of my day of departure for Cambodia and I'm at my brother's near Birmingham. I packed yesterday and I think it's fair to say that I am not what might be termed a 'seasoned traveller'. Why not? One clue is my approch to buying a suitable backpack. Having ordered a backpack on-line, I decided that it wasn't large enough. Now a seasoned traveller would have sensibly seen this as a positive and risen to the challenge by cutting down on the amount of packing in order to travel light. What do I do? Swop my backpack for a larger one...........thankyou Cotswold Outdoor Stores in Cardiff for your help here. OK, no more product plugs!

I then completely filled the larger backpack (which also doubles as a wheeled suitcase...cool!) with stuff that I think I might need (but probably won't) and, horror of horrors, left no room for essential items, namely tomato ketchup, marmite and custard. As I write this journal entry I am still wrestling with this dilemma. I hadn't expected to face such a major obstacle so early in my travels (you could say even before my travels have begun, although I did drive from Wales to the West Midlands yesterday).

Then thanks to my brother for agreeing to drive me to the airport later tody for my flight.
